How to cancel your trial or subscription

Cancelling is two clicks. You keep your access until the end of your current period — no surprise charges, no instant downgrade.

If you're on a trial

  1. Click Settings in the sidebar
  2. Open the Billing tab
  3. Click Cancel trial (top right of the Plan card)
  4. Walk through the save flow — pause, switch to yearly, or confirm

What happens:

  • The 72-hour conversion charge ($29/$79/$99 depending on the plan you selected) won't fire
  • The $3 trial activation fee already collected is non-refundable
  • You keep full trial access until your trial_ends_at date — the page shows it explicitly: "Access until {date}"
  • After that you move to the free tier (60 min/month) — your transcripts and AI answers stay forever

You can reactivate anytime from /pricing — your old transcripts come back with you.

If you're on a paid plan (Pro / Pro+ Monthly or Yearly)

  1. Click Settings in the sidebar
  2. Open the Billing tab
  3. Click Cancel subscription (top right of the Plan card)
  4. Choose: pause for 30 days, switch to yearly at a lower per-month rate, or proceed to cancel
  5. Confirm in the Stripe portal that opens in a new tab

What happens:

  • Stripe stops the recurring charge
  • You keep full Pro/Pro+ access until the end of your current billing period
  • After that you move to the free tier
  • All session history stays — nothing is deleted

Lifetime plan

Lifetime is a one-time payment with no recurring charge to cancel. If you want a refund, see the 30-day guarantee below or message the founder via Help & Feedback → Contact us.

I cancelled but the page still shows my plan

Two things to check:

  1. Did you confirm in the Stripe portal? Our app starts the cancel flow but Stripe owns the final state. If you closed the portal without clicking the red Cancel button, the subscription is still active.
  2. Cache lag — refresh /profile?tab=billing and the banner should switch to "Cancelled — access until {date}".

If neither helps, Help & Feedback → Contact us with category "Billing" and we'll fix it manually.

Common questions

Q: Will I be charged again if I cancel today? A: No — cancelling stops the next charge. You keep paid access through the current period (already paid for), then drop to Free.

Q: How do I cancel a trial before it converts? A: Settings → Billing → Cancel trial. Must be done BEFORE trial_ends_at (visible on the page). After that the trial converts and the regular cancel flow applies (cancel-at-period-end).

Q: I cancelled but my plan still says Pro. Did it work? A: Yes — cancel-at-period-end keeps your plan ACTIVE until the period ends. Look for the banner "Cancelled — access until [date]." The label changes to Free only AFTER the period.

Q: Can I cancel and get a prorated refund for the rest of my month/year? A: No prorated refunds per Stripe policy. The 30-day refund guarantee (full refund of last charge) applies if you're within 30 days of payment AND tell us "the product didn't help."

Q: Where's the Cancel subscription button? A: Settings (gear icon) → Billing tab → Plan card → "Cancel subscription" link below the Manage button. If you don't see it, you're either on Free already OR on Lifetime (one-time, nothing to cancel).

Q: I'm on Lifetime — can I cancel? A: There's no recurring charge to cancel. If you want a refund of the lifetime purchase: Contact us within 30 days. After 30 days the lifetime payment is final.

Q: I clicked Cancel but never got to Stripe portal. A: Some browsers block the Stripe portal popup. Disable popup blocker for interviewchamp.ai, then retry. Alternative: Settings → Billing → "Manage subscription" opens the Stripe portal directly where you can cancel.

Q: How do I re-subscribe after cancelling? A: /pricing → pick a plan → checkout. Your past transcripts + resumes are all preserved; you're back to full access immediately.

Q: Does cancelling delete my data? A: No — transcripts, resumes, AI answers all stay. Only live-AI minute access drops (back to Free's 60-min monthly cap). To DELETE data: Contact us with category "Delete my account."

Q: I have multiple Stripe subscriptions / accidentally paid twice. A: Don't cancel both! Contact us with category "Billing Issue" + your account email. We'll refund the duplicate manually.
