About this role

1X seeks a Mechanical Engineer to lead end-to-end development of physical prototypes and accessories supporting their NEO humanoid robot platform. You'll drive multiple projects from concept through design, fabrication, and testing, working across a diverse range of hardware while collaborating with internal teams and external manufacturing partners.

What you'll do

  • Own product development lifecycle from unclear requirements through design, prototyping, fabrication, testing, and iteration
  • Independently manage multiple concurrent hardware projects with competing priorities and ambiguous initial problems
  • Develop mechanical designs optimized for rapid prototyping, manufacturability, and eventual production scaling
  • Coordinate with machine shops, contract manufacturers, and vendors to execute fabrication and validate designs
  • Conduct hands-on testing and identify improvement opportunities for performance, reliability, and usability
  • Establish requirements, priorities, and execution plans in collaboration with internal stakeholders
