About this role
42dot seeks a Senior Staff Firmware Engineer to architect next-generation embedded platforms for Hyundai's software-defined vehicles. You'll develop safety-critical firmware bridging hardware and autonomous driving systems, owning the complete lifecycle from hardware bring-up through OTA updates while collaborating across cross-functional teams.
What you'll do
- Design and implement scalable, modular firmware architecture for software-defined vehicles with focus on real-time performance
- Develop ISO 26262 ASIL-D compliant safety-critical C firmware and lead functional safety standards adherence
- Manage complete product lifecycle including hardware integration, driver development, OTA stability, and long-term maintenance
- Partner with electrical engineering teams on schematic review, hardware-software debugging, and lab equipment validation
- Create internal tools and automated test frameworks to streamline firmware validation workflows
- Identify and resolve low-level performance bottlenecks in interrupt latency, memory, and bus communication protocols

- Expert C programming for resource-constrained embedded systems
- Real-Time Operating Systems (QNX, FreeRTOS, VXWorks)
- Hardware schematic interpretation and FPGA/MCU/SoC datasheets
- Lab equipment proficiency (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters)
- AUTOSAR, MISRA C, and ISO 26262 automotive standards
- CAN-FD, Ethernet, PCIe, and 10B-T1S communication protocols
- Hardware-software integration and bare-metal development
- Cross-functional technical leadership and stakeholder collaboration
