Software Engineer II - Inline Mailflow

About this role

Abnormal AI seeks a Software Engineer II to build next-generation SMTP relay infrastructure for email security. This foundational platform will support outbound filtering, DLP, encryption, and DMARC enforcement in a fast-paced 0-to-1 environment.

What you'll do

• Design and implement core SMTP relay components including MTA infrastructure, IP management, encryption, and DMARC support
• Build production relay alongside infrastructure engineers and transition to full service ownership
• Translate customer requirements into reliable relay configurations for inbound and outbound use cases
• Own tier-0 mail flow services at production SLA with on-call participation and reliability improvements
• Contribute to technical architecture discussions integrating relay with outbound DLP and other inline products
• Drive knowledge sharing and professional development through runbooks and team documentation

What they're looking for

• Backend software development with 3+ years experience
• Distributed systems design and production service operation
• Go and/or Python programming
• AWS, Kubernetes, and containerization (Docker)
• Email protocols and infrastructure (SMTP, MTA, DNS, SPF/DKIM/DMARC)
• Asynchronous and written communication for distributed teams
• Email security products or SEG platforms
• Email deliverability concepts (IP reputation, bounce handling)
