About this role

Advanced Space seeks an experienced Mission Formulation Engineer to lead early-phase mission concept development for lunar and deep-space projects. You'll translate customer objectives into mission architectures, conduct trade studies, and guide concepts from formulation through down-select, working across multiple technical disciplines in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.

What you'll do

  • Lead early-phase mission studies and concept development from initial objectives through viable down-select options
  • Translate customer mission objectives into requirements, system architectures, and concepts of operations
  • Define and execute trade studies across competing mission architectures, balancing feasibility, performance, cost, and risk
  • Develop system-level resource budgets (delta-v, mass, power, link, data) and validate concepts against requirements
  • Own concept-level mission design including orbit/trajectory selection, maneuver analysis, and coverage assessment
  • Coordinate cross-functional technical teams and guide subsystem concept development across GNC, propulsion, comms, and EPS
