Software Engineer, Compute (8+ YOE)

About this role

Airtable seeks a senior software engineer to lead the next phase of their Kubernetes compute platform, designing and scaling infrastructure across 70+ clusters while improving developer experience and platform maturity. This role balances hands-on engineering (70%) with technical leadership, mentorship, and cross-team collaboration to support enterprise-scale operations.

What you'll do

• Design and implement core Kubernetes platform capabilities across ~70 multi-environment clusters
• Lead foundational modernization efforts like CNI plugin migrations and deployment service rewrites
• Improve developer experience around service creation, deployment workflows, and operational standards
• Partner with Security teams to implement governance controls and enterprise safeguards
• Define and maintain SLOs, measuring platform operational excellence
• Mentor engineers and review architecture proposals for high-impact infrastructure decisions

What they're looking for

• Kubernetes internals (controllers, operators, CRDs, networking, cluster architecture)
• 8+ years software engineering experience with internal service platforms
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, OpenTofu, Pulumi, or similar)
• CI/CD and deployment tools (Spinnaker, ArgoCD, Flux, Jenkins, or similar)
• Go and TypeScript programming languages
• AWS infrastructure and EKS experience (preferred)
• Distributed systems design
• Cross-team communication and collaboration
