Embedded Software Engineer I
About this role
Alarm.com seeks an entry-level embedded software engineer to develop Linux-based IoT device solutions for residential and commercial properties. You'll work alongside experienced engineers to build firmware, connect devices to cloud infrastructure, and grow toward independent ownership in a fast-paced agile environment.
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain embedded Linux applications and board support packages using C/C++
- Implement, test, and debug features on real hardware with guidance from senior engineers
- Support device bring-up and validation with cross-functional electrical and mechanical teams
- Build cloud connectivity features in collaboration with other software teams
- Participate in code reviews, write unit tests, and document work to company standards
- Communicate and collaborate to ensure timely project delivery
What they're looking for
- C and/or C++
- Linux command line and systems knowledge
- Microcontroller and single-board computer platforms (STM32, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, etc.)
- Hardware communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, ADC)
- Circuit schematic reading and electronics fundamentals
- Git version control
- Problem-solving and debugging
- Team collaboration and communication
