Electronics Thermal Engineer

About this role

Allen Control Systems seeks an Electronics Thermal Engineer to design and validate thermal solutions for power electronics in an autonomous defense platform. You'll conduct thermal simulations, select cooling components, and validate designs through lab testing while collaborating with electrical and mechanical engineering teams.

What you'll do

• Design thermal solutions for motor drives, power converters, and embedded computing systems using CFD simulation tools
• Perform heat transfer analysis and steady-state/transient thermal simulations to evaluate system performance under worst-case conditions
• Select and specify thermal interface materials, heat sinks, cold plates, and manage PCB thermal optimization
• Validate thermal designs through testing with thermocouples, thermal cameras, and correlate simulation results with measured data
• Collaborate with electrical engineers on schematic and PCB layout reviews to identify thermal risks early
• Maintain thermal documentation including simulation models, test reports, and design verification records

• Thermal simulation software (ANSYS Icepak, FloTHERM, or equivalent CFD tools)
• Heat transfer fundamentals (conduction, convection, radiation)
• Power electronics understanding (MOSFETs, inductors, switching losses)
• Thermal validation techniques (thermocouples, thermal imaging, data acquisition)
• PCB design and layout optimization for thermal management
• Thermal interface material and heat sink specification
• Technical documentation and design verification reporting
• GaN/SiC device thermal characterization (preferred)
