About this role

Allen Control Systems, a defense startup founded by former Navy engineers, seeks a Power Electronics Engineer to design high-performance power conversion circuits and motor drive systems for autonomous defense platforms. You'll own the full lifecycle from schematic and PCB layout through hardware bring-up, validation, and field integration.

What you'll do

  • Design switch-mode DC/DC converters and motor drive circuits using SiFET and GaN FET technology
  • Create multi-layer PCB schematics and layouts in Altium Designer with focus on EMC, thermal management, and signal integrity
  • Lead hardware bring-up and closed-loop validation using test equipment like oscilloscopes and power analyzers
  • Perform SPICE-based simulations and thermal analysis for power stage design and control modeling
  • Debug EMI/EMC issues and ensure designs meet military or commercial emissions standards
  • Collaborate with firmware and mechanical teams on digital control interfaces and thermal integration

What they're looking for

  • Switch-mode power conversion circuit design (buck, boost, flyback topologies)
  • BLDC/PMSM motor drive hardware design and gate driver implementation
  • Altium Designer PCB layout for mixed-signal and power boards
  • SPICE simulation tools (LTspice, PSIM, SIMPLIS)
  • EMI/EMC debugging and design practices
  • Test instrumentation (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, logic analyzers)
  • Digital control of power converters (DSP/microcontroller)
  • Magnetics design and thermal management analysis

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • Engineering-first culture focused on technical excellence
  • Work on cutting-edge autonomous defense technology
  • Collaboration with experienced founders backed by $180M in successful exits
  • Hands-on role with real-world impact
