About this role
Company Overview
Ambiq is on a mission to enable intelligence everywhere — powering the AI edge revolution with the world's lowest-power semiconductor solutions.
Built on our proprietary sub- and near-threshold technology, our chips deliver multi-fold improvements in energy efficiency without costly process scaling. Since 2010, we've shipped over 300 million units to customers building smarter wearables, medical devices, IoT products, and AI-powered edge applications.
Our cross-functional teams span design, research, development, production, marketing, sales, and operations across Austin, Hsinchu, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Singapore. We move fast, tackle hard problems, and create space for people to grow through complex, meaningful work that shapes the future of technology.
We're looking for self-motivated, creative problem-solvers who are eager to push technological limits and make a real impact in energy efficiency.
At Ambiq, we live by five values: Innovate. Collaborate. Focus. Learn. Achieve.
If that's you, join us — the intelligence everywhere revolution starts here.
Scope
Ambiq is seeking a Sr. AI Software Engineer to develop HELIA AI runtimes and tools and own the developer sites and applications that help customers use them. This hands-on role combines product engineering, web development, interactive demos, and technical documentation.
You will join the AI Technology Group (AITG), reporting directly to Head of AI. You will work with embedded and applied ML engineers on heliaRT, heliaAOT, heliaPROFILER, and related products, contributing to model execution, deployment, profiling, and validation. You will also develop and maintain HELIA product websites and the HELIA Developer Hub, including shared components, content tooling, and deployment workflows.
Level will be determined based on demonstrated experience, technical depth, and scope of ownership. Senior engineers own substantial features from design through release. Staff engineers additionally guide shared interfaces and architecture across products and mentor engineers. Strong fundamentals and the ability to learn across domains matter more than matching every item below.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain HELIA runtime and tool features, including model execution, memory management, native-library integration, and deployment workflows.
- Improve profiling, diagnostics, and command-line tools that help developers evaluate and debug model performance.
- Own HELIA product websites and the Developer Hub, including reusable components, navigation, search, accessibility, and reliable deployments.
- Build interactive AI demos and reference applications connecting models, devices, and HELIA tools with web interfaces and visualizations.
- Develop focused APIs and lightweight backend services to support tools and demos, with appropriate security and error handling.
- Build automated tests and regression checks; partner with embedded engineers on host-versus-target validation.
- Deliver technical guides, API documentation, and tested examples alongside product changes, and improve AITG Handbook content and infrastructure.
- Lead design reviews, coordinate cross-product changes, mentor engineers, and improve shared build and release workflows.
Requirements
- Strong experience delivering and maintaining libraries, developer tools, or applications, with ownership from design through release.
- Proficiency in C/C++ or Rust, the ability to contribute to C/C++ codebases, and sound understanding of memory management and native interfaces.
- Experience with AI/ML software integration, such as inference runtimes, model deployment, tensor libraries, or profiling tools.
- Proficiency in Python or a comparable language for tooling, automation, and APIs.
- Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and a modern web framework, with experience building, deploying, and maintaining websites or applications.
- Strong debugging and testing practices, including Git, code review, automated builds, and CI/CD.
- Technical ownership of substantial features; for Staff level, leadership across related systems, including interface design, integration, and mentoring.
- Clear technical writing and communication with engineers, field applications teams, and other stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Embedded development, cross-compilation, on-target debugging, or hardware-connected applications.
- Compiler infrastructure, model formats, quantization, or backend integration.
- Interactive visualization, streaming data, or browser-to-device communication.
- Documentation systems such as Astro/Starlight, Markdown/MDX, or generated API references.
- Containerized development, cloud deployment, or meaningful open-source contributions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (BS or BA) with strong relevant software engineering experience. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred; other degree disciplines or equivalent practical experience are considered when supported by demonstrated engineering work.
- An MS or PhD in a relevant technical field is a plus, but is not required.
- A record of substantial software delivery through professional or sustained open-source work. Staff candidates should also demonstrate technical influence across products or systems.
Must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
