About this role
Anduril Industries seeks a Warhead Design Engineer to use modeling, simulation, and empirical analysis to guide warhead and ordnance system development from concept through production. You'll leverage multi-physics tools and first-principles reasoning to make better design decisions, reduce unnecessary testing, and support multiple defense programs across diverse platforms.
What you'll do
- Develop pre-test predictions and correlate computational models with test data to validate designs
- Conduct lethality and performance analysis using Gurney equations and multi-physics simulation tools (CTH, Sierra, ALE3D, etc.)
- Plan, execute, and analyze arena and system testing of munitions products, including experimental design and safety oversight
- Support warhead design maturity from concept through production by integrating academic literature, empirical data, and simulation results
- Assemble, disassemble, and prepare explosive test articles and precision targets
- Compile and interpret test video and data from ground and flight tests to inform future designs and proposals
What they're looking for
- Multi-physics modeling and simulation (CTH, Sierra, ALE3D, Ansys Autodyn, LS-Dyna)
- Warhead and ordnance system design and analysis
- Explosives engineering and lethality assessment
- Hand-calculation methods (Gurney equations)
- Test planning, design of experiments, and data analysis
- Python or MATLAB programming
- Technical writing and report generation
- Mechanical and aerospace engineering fundamentals
