About this role
Anthropic seeks a Senior Data Center Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and technical oversight of mechanical systems (cooling, piping, liquid cooling, fire protection) across rapidly expanding data center facilities in the U.S. This senior role involves directing design from concept through construction, driving prefabrication and modular strategies, and coordinating with external partners to meet aggressive timelines and extreme density requirements.
What you'll do
- Drive and review mechanical design for cooling plants, chilled-water distribution, liquid cooling systems, and fire protection across multiple facilities
- Direct external engineering firms' design documentation, specifications, and construction drawings to align with Anthropic standards
- Lead prefabrication and modular mechanical strategy, including standardized cooling skids and piping assemblies for faster deployment
- Serve as primary technical contact with external developers, design partners, and construction vendors across the U.S. portfolio
- Monitor mechanical installation for code compliance and design intent; conduct site visits and oversee commissioning and testing
- Develop equipment specifications, bid packages, and perform technical due diligence on third-party facilities
