Design Engineer, Education Labs

About this role

Anthropic's Education Labs seeks a versatile Design Engineer to build AI-powered features that develop genuine user capability rather than engagement. Operating as a technical lead on a small research-focused team, you'll prototype novel interaction patterns, establish technical direction, and ship production features that help people become more skilled with AI.

What you'll do

• Design and ship full-stack features measuring success by user capability growth rather than engagement metrics
• Build end-to-end prototypes exploring new interaction paradigms with emphasis on motion, polish, and user experience
• Define technical patterns and direction for the team to follow
• Collaborate across Product, Design, and Research to integrate skill development into Anthropic's broader product strategy
• Identify high-leverage opportunities and build stakeholder conviction around team roadmap
• Translate research insights on skill development and human-AI collaboration into shipped products

What they're looking for

• Full-stack web development (6+ years experience)
• Front-end: TypeScript, JavaScript, React, CSS with interaction design expertise
• Back-end and data pipelines: Python, API design, analytics
• Product design and user experience instincts
• Rapid prototyping and user testing
• Cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management
• Strategic thinking and prioritization
• Human-computer interaction or developer tools experience
