About this role

Anthropic seeks a Research Engineer to investigate how AI impacts democratic institutions and the rule of law. You'll conduct technical and sociotechnical research spanning safety evaluations, model improvements, and applications designed to strengthen civic participation and accountable governance.

What you'll do

  • Design and execute AI safety evaluations focused on legal alignment and fine-tune models to improve performance
  • Analyze institutional vulnerabilities created by AI and develop sociotechnical mitigations
  • Create novel AI applications that strengthen democratic processes and civic engagement
  • Conduct rigorous studies on how AI-generated information supports informed deliberation
  • Collaborate with researchers, policy experts, and cross-functional teams on safety initiatives
  • Translate research findings into actionable recommendations for products and policy
