Apex Technology
Spacecraft Mechanisms Build Engineer
About this role
Apex is hiring a Spacecraft Mechanisms Build Engineer to develop, integrate, and scale electromechanical hardware for commercial satellite buses, with focus on rotating assemblies, actuators, and motor-driven mechanisms. You'll support build, test, and qualification of flight-grade components while collaborating across mechanisms, avionics, controls, manufacturing, and test teams to enable production scalability.
What you'll do
- Build, integrate, and qualify spacecraft electromechanical hardware and long-life rotating assemblies
- Develop and execute component and system-level test campaigns for motor-driven spacecraft mechanisms
- Design test setups, fixtures, and instrumentation for validating actuators and rotating hardware
- Support manufacturing scaling of precision electromechanical components and actuator systems
- Integrate and validate motor drive systems, sensors, and mechanism telemetry with controls and avionics teams
- Execute environmental testing (vibration, thermal vacuum, shock, lifetime) and drive root cause investigations
What they're looking for
- Electromechanical systems design and troubleshooting
- Electric motor and actuator hardware expertise
- Sensor integration (Hall effect, rotary encoders, resolvers, microswitches)
- Hardware bring-up, integration, and test execution
- Manufacturing process development and quality documentation
- Vibration and thermal vacuum testing
- Mechanical and electrical problem-solving
- Flight or high-reliability hardware experience
