Civil Engineer - Transportation

About this role

Apex Companies seeks an experienced Transportation Civil Engineer in Portland, OR to lead roadway and highway design projects for public works and private development. You'll manage design deliverables, mentor junior staff, and collaborate across disciplines in a fast-paced consulting environment.

What you'll do

• Lead moderate to large-scale roadway/highway design projects and independently manage smaller projects using AASHTO or local standards
• Prepare civil engineering design elements including roadway sections, intersections, drainage, ADA compliance, and construction staging plans
• Mentor and support junior engineers in developing plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) documents
• Manage internal and external communication, coordinate with subconsultants, and maintain project schedules and budgets
• Write technical reports and memos; coordinate with project managers to ensure client satisfaction
• Represent Apex in professional organizations and perform additional duties as assigned

What they're looking for

• Civil engineering design with focus on roadway/highway standards
• AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation InRoads, or similar CADD software
• State and local government roadway design standards
• Project management and team leadership
• Technical writing and communication
• AASHTO, MUTCD, ODOT/WSDOT design manual familiarity
• Knowledge of local development codes and ADA standards
• Microsoft Office proficiency
