EMC Design Engineer
About this role
Archer, an aerospace company developing all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, is seeking an EMC Design Engineer to design and analyze electromagnetic compatibility for aircraft systems. The role involves circuit simulation, FEM analysis, compliance testing to aerospace standards (DO-160G, MIL 461G), and cross-functional collaboration with electrical and mechanical teams.
What you'll do
- Design, analyze, and test EMI filters; provide guidance on component selection, board layout, and grounding strategies
- Perform circuit and finite element simulations for emissions, susceptibility, ESD, and lightning strike scenarios
- Deliver EMC recommendations to engineering teams on PCB layout, cable shielding, enclosure design, and grounding
- Collaborate with EMC test engineers to design and certify products for DO-160G and MIL 461G standards
- Engage with external EMC test labs for aircraft-level and pre-compliance/compliance testing
- Provide detailed technical inputs on value selection and component orientation for filter designs

- EMI analysis and simulation for power electronics and electric circuits
- Circuit simulation tools (MATLAB, PLECS, PSIM)
- Ansys electromagnetic tools (Q3D, SIWave, HFSS, Maxwell)
- EMC testing equipment operation (LISNs, antennas, BCI probes, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, VNA, impedance analyzers)
- Aerospace and automotive EMC standards (DO-160, MIL-461, CISPR, UN ECE Regulation 10, FCC)
- Signal integrity and power integrity design and simulation
- Active EMI filter analysis and design
- PCB layout and cable shielding design
