About this role
Archer, an electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft company, seeks a Propulsion Controls Engineer to design and optimize motor control systems for sustainable urban air mobility. You'll develop flight-critical control algorithms, validate propulsion system performance, and ensure compliance with aviation safety standards.
What you'll do
- Design and validate advanced motor/generator control algorithms including sensorless and observer-based techniques
- Develop interfaces between flight control computers, inverters, propulsion controls, and battery management systems
- Create control system architectures with hardware-in-the-loop testing and plant model development
- Design redundant fault detection and isolation systems for safe flight operations
- Conduct system-level testing, HIL testing, and support flight testing activities
- Ensure compliance with DO-178C, DO-254, and aviation standards
What they're looking for
- Advanced motor control algorithms (FOC, DTC, observers, sensorless control)
- MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++ for real-time embedded systems
- Control system modeling, simulation, and plant model development
- Flight-critical and safety-critical system development
- Hardware-in-the-loop testing and system integration
- Battery management systems and high-voltage safety
- Python for analysis
- State machine design and fault-tolerant control
