About this role

At Atom Computing, we build quantum computers using arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms that will empower customers to achieve unprecedented computational breakthroughs. Join a world-class team of scientists, engineers, and business professionals to advance the state-of-the-art in quantum computing.

We are seeking a research intern to contribute to the architecture and strategy of error correction on neutral atom quantum computers. Atomic qubit arrays provide a path to the large-scale quantum computers that will deliver fault-tolerant, error-corrected logical qubits.

You will work with our Quantum Error Correction team to tackle targeted research questions related to fault-tolerant quantum computing using neutral-atom hardware. We are specifically seeking candidates with expertise in the following areas:

  • Applications of machine learning/AI for quantum computing
  • QEC codes and fault-tolerant logic
  • Magic state production
  • Synthesis and compilation of fault-tolerant algorithms
  • Design, simulation, and execution of fault-tolerant protocols

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to new and ongoing research projects at Atom Computing, particularly those related to quantum error correction and fault tolerance.

Experience & Education

  • Currently pursuing a PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with quantum error correction theory or experiment.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to translate concepts into demonstrations running on actual quantum computing hardware.
  • Familiarity with Python and Git software version control
  • Temperamentally suited to work at a fast-growing startup: self-motivated, humble, driven, and collaborative.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse team of experimental physicists, hardware, and software engineers.

As this is a temporary summer internship, interns are not eligible for employee benefits. Interns will have access to complimentary beverages, snacks, and catered lunches at our office.

The hourly pay range for this position is $35 - $50, commensurate with education and relevant experience.
