About this role
Atomic Semi, founded by chip-making pioneer Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller, is seeking an embedded software engineering intern to help build semiconductor fabrication equipment. You'll develop real-time Linux applications and microcontroller firmware in Rust while working on an integrated engineering team solving complex hardware challenges, with a portfolio requirement demonstrating your actual project experience.
What you'll do
- Develop real-time Linux applications and microcontroller firmware in Rust for semiconductor fabrication equipment control
- Build backend systems for capturing and analyzing semiconductor process data
- Participate in end-to-end system bring-up and testing of high-performance tools
- Work on equipment with tight requirements in structures, optics, liquids, heat transfer, physics, and chemistry
What they're looking for
- Embedded systems and OS concepts (Linux/RTOS)
- Python, C, or C++
- Microcontroller programming (ADC, GPIO, PWM, SPI, I2C)
- Low-level systems programming
- Rust (preferred)
- Electronics and feedback control systems (nice-to-have)
- Real-time application development
- Backend system design
