About this role
Atomic Semi seeks a hands-on mechanical engineer to design and build precision motion systems and equipment for semiconductor fabrication, working on sub-micron to nanometer-scale machines. You'll prototype and iterate rapidly while collaborating across electrical, controls, and optics teams in an early-stage startup environment.
What you'll do
- Design precision machines, motion stages, and structural systems targeting nanometer-level performance
- Lead mechanical system integration and alignment procedures with cross-functional teams
- Drive mechanical design with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and manufacturability focus
- Rapidly prototype, build, and characterize designs using various fabrication tools
- Select and integrate precision components like bearings, encoders, and actuators
- Develop error budgets and tolerance stack-ups to identify and mitigate error sources
What they're looking for
- Precision machine design and exact-constraint design
- Tolerance analysis and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Hands-on prototyping, fabrication, and assembly
- Dimensional metrology (interferometry, LVDTs, CMMs)
- Precision component selection and integration
- Error budgeting and structural analysis
- CAD and design iteration
- Kinematic couplings and flexure design
Benefits
- Competitive salary range: $115,000–$180,000 annually
- Generous equity package
- Work on cutting-edge semiconductor technology
- Offices in Austin, TX and San Francisco, CA
- Solid funding and world-class advisors
- Access to advanced lab equipment (3D printers, microscopes, e-beam writers)
