AI Engineer

About this role

Join Aviator's mission to simplify healthcare navigation by building AI-native product experiences. As an AI Engineer, you'll develop full-stack solutions combining patient-facing interfaces with backend systems, while scaling AI agents and automation to handle complex care coordination workflows in a high-ownership startup role.

What you'll do

• Build end-to-end AI-native features across patient app and internal systems, from UI to scalable APIs
• Design and productionize AI agents with tool-using capabilities, workflow orchestration, and safety controls
• Collaborate with product, clinical, and operations teams to translate healthcare workflows into technical solutions
• Develop backend services integrating with EHRs, insurance platforms, and third-party systems
• Implement testing, monitoring, and quality assurance for reliable high-stakes healthcare operations
• Contribute to architectural decisions and help define project scope and roadmap priorities

What they're looking for

• Full-stack development (2+ years), strong in backend: Python/TypeScript, PostgreSQL, APIs/SDKs
• AI/ML: agent frameworks, structured outputs, tool calling, retrieval patterns, uncertainty handling
• Frontend capabilities and product design intuition with focus on usability and polish
• Healthcare system integrations (EHRs, licensing, insurance platforms)
• High agency and ownership; ability to drive projects independently with accountability
• Clear written communication for documentation and async collaboration
• Quick learning and adaptability in unfamiliar technical domains
• Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
