Software Engineer

About this role

Axios seeks a backend-focused Software Engineer to build and scale the reliable APIs and services powering its news delivery platform. You'll work with Golang and Python in a remote role, collaborating across teams to ensure fast, resilient systems that serve millions of readers daily.

What you'll do

• Design and maintain scalable REST APIs for Axios products
• Build and optimize backend services in Golang and Python for performance and reliability
• Design database schemas and queries to support new features
• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests with comprehensive coverage
• Monitor system health and improve performance through logging and metrics
• Collaborate with front-end engineers, designers, and product managers on end-to-end features

What they're looking for

• Backend or full-stack development (2–5+ years)
• Golang and/or Python proficiency
• RESTful API design and consumption
• Relational databases (Postgres, MySQL) and ORMs
• Unit and integration testing practices
• Backend scaling patterns and performance optimization
• AI tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code)
• Cross-functional collaboration in agile environments
