About this role
Axle seeks an Applied AI Engineer to build AI-powered features for fleet repair and maintenance operations. You'll own the complete model lifecycle from research through production, working with real-world data like shop-floor audio and repair notes to ship features that directly impact the $160B fleet industry.
What you'll do
- Design, train, and deploy AI features including speech-to-text, entity extraction, and classification models
- Handle messy, domain-specific data from shop floors, unstructured repair notes, and scanned documents
- Integrate AI models into mobile and web products alongside full-stack engineers
- Rapidly experiment with model architectures and fine-tuning strategies to improve accuracy
- Monitor production performance and optimize for accuracy, latency, and cost efficiency
- Prototype new AI capabilities across a customer-approved roadmap
What they're looking for
- 2-5 years applied AI/ML engineering experience
- Strong Python programming
- ML/NLP frameworks proficiency
- Speech-to-text or classification model experience
- Ability to work with unstructured and noisy datasets
- End-to-end project ownership in startup environments
- Mobile or offline-first application experience (bonus)
- Physical/built world AI applications (bonus)
