About this role
Axon is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to design and prototype mechanical systems for early-stage hardware products on the New Ventures team. You'll balance rapid iteration with manufacturable design, working hands-on to assess feasibility and production risk while collaborating across engineering disciplines.
What you'll do
- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and enclosures for exploratory prototypes and small-batch products
- Create CAD models, drawings, and technical documentation supporting rapid iteration and manufacturing handoffs
- Select materials, manufacturing methods, and assembly approaches balancing speed, cost, durability, and learning goals
- Build, assemble, test, and troubleshoot physical prototypes using hands-on fabrication and external vendors
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify production risks and design tradeoffs
- Support Build-Measure-Learn cycles by documenting design decisions, test results, and manufacturing learnings
What they're looking for
- CAD modeling and drawing creation
- Design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly
- Mechanical design fundamentals (tolerances, materials, fastening, mechanisms)
- Prototyping and hands-on fabrication
- Manufacturing process knowledge (3D printing, CNC, sheet metal, injection molding)
- Cross-functional collaboration and communication
- Design tradeoff analysis
- Electronics integration experience
Benefits
- Hybrid work schedule (Scottsdale, AZ or Seattle, WA; Tuesday-Friday onsite)
- Mission-driven work supporting safety and justice
