About this role

Axon is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to design and prototype mechanical systems for early-stage hardware products on the New Ventures team. You'll balance rapid iteration with manufacturable design, working hands-on to assess feasibility and production risk while collaborating across engineering disciplines.

What you'll do

  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and enclosures for exploratory prototypes and small-batch products
  • Create CAD models, drawings, and technical documentation supporting rapid iteration and manufacturing handoffs
  • Select materials, manufacturing methods, and assembly approaches balancing speed, cost, durability, and learning goals
  • Build, assemble, test, and troubleshoot physical prototypes using hands-on fabrication and external vendors
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify production risks and design tradeoffs
  • Support Build-Measure-Learn cycles by documenting design decisions, test results, and manufacturing learnings

What they're looking for

  • CAD modeling and drawing creation
  • Design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly
  • Mechanical design fundamentals (tolerances, materials, fastening, mechanisms)
  • Prototyping and hands-on fabrication
  • Manufacturing process knowledge (3D printing, CNC, sheet metal, injection molding)
  • Cross-functional collaboration and communication
  • Design tradeoff analysis
  • Electronics integration experience

Benefits

  • Hybrid work schedule (Scottsdale, AZ or Seattle, WA; Tuesday-Friday onsite)
  • Mission-driven work supporting safety and justice
  • Hands-on technical role with ownership and autonomy
  • Collaboration with diverse engineering disciplines
