Field Reliability Engineer

About this role

Base seeks a Field Reliability Engineer to monitor and analyze failures in their distributed battery hardware fleet. You'll investigate root causes, track failure rates, manage RMA processes, and drive design improvements to enhance system reliability.

What you'll do

• Investigate field failures and manufacturing issues to determine root causes through data analysis and local site visits
• Build and monitor fleet health dashboards using Grafana, SQL, and Python to identify emerging reliability trends
• Track failure rates and create Pareto charts to prioritize reliability improvements
• Make field decisions on hardware swaps and pulls, and oversee the return and triage process
• Develop tests to recreate field failures in the lab and recommend design or corrective actions
• Drive supplier performance on implementing corrective actions and maintain detailed failure records

• Electrical engineering fundamentals
• Root cause analysis and failure investigation
• Dashboard building (Grafana, SQL, BigQuery, Python)
• Battery energy storage systems or power electronics expertise
• PCB/PCBA and electronic component knowledge
• Reliability concepts (MTBF, AFR, Weibull analysis)
• System-level testing and troubleshooting
• Problem-solving and attention to detail
