Functional Tester Design Engineer

Austin, TXfulltimemidAdded 2 days ago

About this role

Base is seeking a Functional Test Design Engineer to design, build, and maintain end-of-line testers for battery assembly systems. You'll split time between hands-on production support (debugging failures, improving yield) and developing new testers, working across hardware design, test software, and instrumentation.

What you'll do

  • Own day-to-day production floor support for EOL functional testers—debug failures, analyze yield, and reduce false rejects
  • Design tester hardware including schematics, PCBA, fixtures, and power systems for both prototypes and high-volume stations
  • Develop and maintain test software in Python on Linux, including test flows, firmware loading, and data upload
  • Select and integrate measurement instruments (DAQ, programmable loads, source meters, CAN/serial interfaces)
  • Ensure accurate test data capture and reliable traceability database uploads for yield analysis
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and manufacturing teams to define test coverage and feed production insights back to design

What they're looking for

  • Functional/end-of-line tester design for electromechanical assemblies
  • Electrical engineering fundamentals and hardware design (schematics, PCBA, fixturing)
  • Python programming on Linux for test automation and instrument control
  • Measurement instrumentation expertise (DAQ, loads, meters, digital comms)
  • Debugging across hardware, firmware, and software layers
  • Test methodology (power-up sequences, firmware loading, I/O verification)
  • High-volume manufacturing and cycle-time optimization
  • Data integrity and technical documentation
