Austin, TXfulltimemidAdded 2 days ago

About this role

Base seeks an Infrastructure Engineer to design and operate the distributed compute backbone that coordinates thousands of battery devices across the country. You'll build the APIs, orchestration systems, and data infrastructure that enable reliable device communication, fleet management, and synchronized operations at scale.

What you'll do

  • Design and build core orchestration and coordination layers for device fleet operations with >99.9% availability
  • Develop backend systems for device-to-cloud communication including message routing, retry logic, and conflict resolution
  • Create APIs and services for product teams to query device state, push updates, and execute commands across thousands of devices
  • Design horizontally scalable architectures from hundreds to millions of devices while optimizing costs
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and operational runbooks for production distributed systems
  • Own database and storage decisions supporting both operational and analytical workloads

What they're looking for

  • Backend infrastructure and distributed systems design (5+ years)
  • Go, Python, Java, or equivalent backend languages
  • Distributed systems concepts (eventual consistency, state synchronization, failure handling)
  • Message queues and event streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS)
  • Database design and data modeling across relational and NoSQL systems
  • Infrastructure-as-code and cloud platforms (AWS or GCP)
  • High-scale API and service development
  • IoT or device management systems (nice-to-have)
