AI Backend Engineer (AI Workflow Systems)

About this role

BJAK seeks an AI Backend Engineer to build and operate production systems powering AI-driven insurance workflows across Southeast Asia. You'll design inference pipelines, optimize latency and cost, ensure observability, and collaborate across teams to ship reliable, scalable AI features.

What you'll do

• Build and operate backend systems serving AI-powered insurance workflows in production
• Design AI orchestration layers connecting models, APIs, and business logic
• Implement inference pipelines for LLM-based and AI-assisted automation
• Optimize latency, throughput, and cost through caching, batching, streaming, and routing
• Implement observability including logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting
• Debug production issues and resolve root causes in distributed AI systems

What they're looking for

• Backend engineering with production systems experience
• High-throughput, low-latency service design
• Familiarity with LLMs, embeddings, or AI workflows
• Distributed systems and production debugging
• API and data flow design
• Observability tools (logging, monitoring, tracing)
• Python and/or Node.js
