About this role
A1 seeks an Applied AI Engineer to develop and deploy reliable AI features for a proactive smart assistant. You'll work across the full stack—from model behavior and prompt design to production systems—ensuring AI capabilities translate into real-world user value rather than just working in demos.
What you'll do
- Build and ship complete AI features from model selection through user experience
- Design and refine prompts, tools, memory systems, and agent workflows
- Convert raw model outputs into structured, predictable behaviors
- Debug and optimize across the full stack for latency, cost, and reliability
- Develop evaluation frameworks to measure real-world performance
- Collaborate with product and engineering to translate ambiguous problems into working systems
What they're looking for
- Machine learning fundamentals and neural network architectures
- Python and production-quality code
- LLM APIs and model fine-tuning/deployment experience
- PyTorch or JAX
- Vector databases and inference/serving (e.g., vLLM)
- Full-stack debugging across model, infrastructure, and product layers
- Problem-solving in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
- Shipping mindset with focus on iteration and continuous improvement
