Applied AI Engineer

About this role

A1 seeks an Applied AI Engineer to develop production-grade AI features for a smart assistant product that handles real-world workflows and multi-step reasoning. You'll bridge machine learning, systems engineering, and product to ensure AI models perform reliably at scale, not just in controlled settings.

What you'll do

• Build and deploy end-to-end AI features from model behavior through user experience
• Design and optimize prompts, agent workflows, memory systems, and tool integration
• Convert raw model outputs into structured, predictable, and reliable behaviors
• Debug across the full stack including models, orchestration, infrastructure, and UX
• Create evaluation frameworks to measure real-world performance and drive iterations
• Optimize for latency, cost, and production reliability while collaborating with product and engineering

What they're looking for

• Python and production-quality code
• PyTorch or JAX
• LLM deployment and inference (vLLM, OpenAI APIs, open models)
• Vector databases
• ML model training, fine-tuning, and deployment
• Full-stack debugging across ML and systems layers
• Problem-solving in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
• Ability to work independently with bias toward shipping
