About this role

A1 is hiring an Applied AI Engineer to develop production-ready AI features for a smart assistant platform. You'll bridge machine learning, systems, and product—handling everything from prompt design and model optimization to building reliable, real-world AI workflows that actually work at scale.

What you'll do

  • Build and ship end-to-end AI features from model selection through user experience
  • Design prompts, tools, memory systems, and agent workflows for reliable behavior
  • Debug and optimize across the full stack (model, orchestration, infrastructure, UX)
  • Develop evaluation frameworks to measure real-world AI performance
  • Optimize for latency, cost, and production reliability
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate ambiguous problems into working systems

What they're looking for

  • Machine learning fundamentals and neural network architectures
  • Python and production-quality code
  • LLM APIs and fine-tuning (OpenAI, LLaMA, Qwen, etc.)
  • PyTorch or JAX
  • ML model deployment and inference serving (e.g., vLLM)
  • Vector databases
  • Problem-solving across abstraction layers
  • Rapid iteration and shipping mindset

Benefits

  • Work on a proactive AI assistant impacting billions globally
  • Small, world-class team environment with collective decision-making
  • Rapid pace with balance between shipping quality and learning
  • Full-stack ownership and independent execution
  • Efficient hiring process with prompt decision-making
