Backend Engineer - Claims Automation (Remote, China)

About this role

BJAK seeks a Backend Engineer to design and build core systems automating insurance claims processing end-to-end. You'll own the backend infrastructure handling submission, validation, assessment, approval and payout workflows while ensuring accuracy, reliability and traceability across complex operational systems.

What you'll do

• Design and implement backend services powering claims automation workflows from submission through payout
• Build logic for claims validation, assessment, approval and complex rule management including eligibility and fraud checks
• Integrate with insurer systems, workflow engines and external data sources
• Manage asynchronous processing, queues, retries and API design for claims operations
• Debug production issues and perform root cause analysis for claims failures or inconsistencies
• Collaborate with product, operations, QA and DevOps teams to deliver end-to-end solutions

• Backend system design and production environment experience
• APIs, databases, distributed systems and backend architecture
• Workflow and state-based system design
• Asynchronous processing and event-driven architecture
• Debugging complex, data-heavy backend systems
• Strong focus on data correctness and edge case handling
• Node.js, Python, Java or similar backend technologies
• Messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS)
