Legal Systems Engineer

About this role

Block seeks a Legal Systems Engineer to architect and evolve the technology infrastructure powering their Legal function, with emphasis on AI integration, workflow automation, and cross-platform systems design. This hands-on technical leadership role requires combining software engineering expertise with legal domain knowledge to build scalable solutions that modernize how Legal operates.

What you'll do

• Design and maintain scalable legal systems architecture across ELM, eDiscovery, CLM, and AI platforms
• Lead AI-driven solution development using Claude, Harvey, and internal LLMs while establishing best practices for Legal team adoption
• Build integrations across DocuSign CLM, Brightflag, Tonkean, AODocs, and other legal tools via APIs and automations
• Develop data pipelines and analytics workflows using Databricks/Snowflake to support legal operations and intelligence
• Provide technical leadership for eDiscovery and information governance initiatives aligned with EDRM standards
• Identify and execute high-impact automation opportunities to reduce manual effort and improve legal workflows

What they're looking for

• Software/systems engineering and architecture (7-10+ years)
• Programming in Python, JavaScript, or similar languages
• SaaS platform integration and API development
• AI tools experience (Claude, Codex, Copilot, or similar)
• Enterprise Legal Management (ELM) and eBilling platforms
• eDiscovery workflows and EDRM lifecycle knowledge
• Data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake)
• Legal workflows understanding (contracts, billing, discovery)
