Software Engineer, Finance Applications

About this role

Block seeks a Software Engineer to design and build the backend financial infrastructure powering all company brands, with a strong emphasis on AI-driven development. You'll architect scalable systems for accounting, FP&A, tax, and procurement while leading platform migrations and ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

What you'll do

• Design and implement backend services for financial operations, accounting, FP&A, tax, and procurement functions
• Lead migration of business-critical workflows from legacy vendor platforms to internal systems with zero disruption
• Build configurable workflow engines, rules-based routing, and event-driven automations across business lines
• Design and maintain integrations between internal platforms and external systems using APIs and messaging patterns
• Translate complex financial and regulatory requirements into well-architected technical solutions with cross-functional teams
• Drive architecture decisions, conduct design reviews, and mentor engineers on code quality and operational reliability

• 6+ years building complex systems with proven technical expertise
• Production experience with regulated or financially sensitive systems
