Software Engineer II, Backend

About this role

Brex seeks a Backend Software Engineer II to build critical credit decisioning and risk management systems that power their financial platform. You'll develop scalable infrastructure for underwriting, real-time data pipelines, and ML-powered credit models while working across the full stack on high-impact financial problems.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain financial infrastructure including bank integrations, transaction pipelines, and financial statement processing systems
• Develop and optimize the underwriting engine for credit decisions with sub-second latency and high reliability
• Create customer-facing features for credit limit management and financial data collection in React/TypeScript
• Design internal tooling for Operations and Portfolio Management teams to manage credit risk
• Integrate ML credit risk models into real-time decisioning flows
• Participate in on-call rotation for mission-critical systems

• Backend development (Kotlin, Java, TypeScript)
• Fintech or financial systems experience
• PostgreSQL and database design
• Event streaming (Kafka) and distributed systems
