Software Engineer II, Backend

About this role

Join Brex's Credit Limit Engineering team to build mission-critical financial infrastructure powering credit decisioning and risk management at scale. You'll develop real-time data pipelines, underwriting engines, and customer-facing tools that responsibly manage billions in credit exposure across 200+ markets.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain financial infrastructure including bank integrations, statement processing, and real-time transaction pipelines
• Develop and optimize the underwriting engine ensuring sub-second latency credit decisions for thousands of businesses
• Implement customer-facing features for credit management and financial data collection in React/TypeScript
• Design internal tooling for Operations and Portfolio Management teams to manage risk and edge cases
• Integrate ML credit risk models into real-time decisioning flows and production systems
• Participate in on-call rotation maintaining high operational standards for mission-critical systems

• Backend development (Kotlin, Java, TypeScript preferred)
• Financial systems or fintech experience
• Production system design and scaling
• PostgreSQL and database architecture
• Kafka and event streaming
• Distributed systems
• Full-stack development and testing
• Code quality, testing, and observability practices
