Overview

The Quality Field Engineer is a developing field quality role within Construction and Integrated Services (C&IS) that supports implementation of project-specific quality requirements on active construction and design-build projects. The role completes assigned inspections, observations, and records within established procedures and acceptance criteria; receives regular direction and review from the CQC Manager or designated project quality leader; coordinates routine findings with field, project, design, trade-partner, testing, and client representatives; and escalates exceptions, disputed conditions, and decisions outside assigned authority. The Quality Field Engineer helps verify that work, materials, and documentation conform to approved drawings, specifications, submittals, contract requirements, applicable codes, and the BRPH Quality Management System (QMS). The role builds specialized construction-quality capability through increasingly complex assignments while remaining within defined review, approval, and escalation boundaries.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform assigned routine, scheduled, and hold-point inspections in accordance with the project-specific Quality Control Plan, approved inspection criteria, and direction from the CQC Manager or designated project quality leader.
• Review applicable drawings, specifications, approved submittals, requests for information, manufacturer instructions, checklists, and acceptance criteria before inspecting the work.
• Monitor workmanship, materials, equipment, installation activities, and protection of completed work for conformance with approved project requirements.
• Participate in preparatory, initial, and follow-up control activities when required by the contract, project Quality Control Plan, or assigned definable feature of work.
• Create clear, timely quality observations in Procore or the approved project system, including location, issue, requirement reference, measurements or tolerances when applicable, photographs, disposition status, responsible party, and required action.
• Identify and promptly communicate incomplete, deficient, or nonconforming work to the CQC Manager, Superintendent, Project Manager, responsible trade partner, and other parties identified by the project communication plan.
• Exercise documented authority to stop or restrict affected work when continuing could adversely affect quality or conceal a defect, and immediately elevate the condition through the project quality escalation path.
• Assist with preparing, tracking, verifying, and closing nonconformance reports, deficiency items, punch-list items, and corrective-action records within assigned authority and required review checkpoints.
• Verify completed corrective work against documented acceptance criteria and submit the supporting evidence for approval or closure by the responsible quality authority.
• Coordinate assigned inspections and tests with trade partners, third-party testing agencies, commissioning personnel, design professionals, authorities having jurisdiction, and client representatives.
• Inspect delivered materials and equipment for consistency with approved submittals and document storage, protection, identification, certification, damage, and nonconforming-material controls.
• Maintain organized and traceable inspection reports, test reports, material certifications, photographs, checklists, observation logs, deficiency records, and closeout documentation.
• Participate in preinstallation meetings, site walks, coordination meetings, constructability discussions, quality planning, commissioning, turnover, and closeout activities as assigned.
• Raise drawing conflicts, field conditions, constructability concerns, and potential quality impacts from proposed changes before affected work proceeds or is concealed.
• Use current project documents and follow approved document-control, safety, and personal protective equipment requirements while working in active construction areas.
• Support lessons learned and continuous-improvement activities by communicating recurring issues, effective controls, and practical field feedback.
