Power Systems Engineer

About this role

Carbon Direct seeks an Electrical Engineer to join its Data and Innovation team, where you'll apply power systems expertise, machine learning, and energy economics to accelerate climate solutions. You'll support client engagements and internal research on grid decarbonization, renewable integration, and electrification pathways.

What you'll do

• Develop and operationalize ML/AI models for load, generation, price, and renewable forecasting
• Design and analyze electrical systems for decarbonization including grid integration and energy storage
• Conduct transmission planning and renewable integration assessments with production cost modeling
• Perform technical due diligence on electrical infrastructure, energy storage, and industrial electrification projects
• Communicate engineering analyses and recommendations to clients and executive stakeholders
• Collaborate cross-functionally and contribute to technical publications on grid decarbonization

What they're looking for

• AC/DC power flow modeling and production-cost software (PROMOD, Plexos, AURORA)
• Statistical modeling and forecasting (Python, R, MATLAB)
• Machine learning deployment in production environments
• Electricity market structures (ISOs/RTOs) and wholesale market knowledge
• Power systems and grid operations expertise
• Technical writing and stakeholder communication
• Energy storage, EV infrastructure, or building electrification modeling (preferred)
• GHG accounting and carbon market frameworks (preferred)
