Software Engineer - Backend

About this role

Cardless seeks an experienced backend engineer (5+ years) to design and scale financial systems powering their co-branded credit card platform. You'll own projects end-to-end across applications, accounts, transactions, fraud, risk, and rewards domains, collaborating with cross-functional teams.

What you'll do

• Design and build scalable, secure backend systems for financial products
• Drive architectural decisions and platform evolution
• Own projects from design through production, including testing and deployment
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and external partners
• Improve system reliability, observability, performance, and developer experience
• Provide technical guidance to peers across engineering

• Backend system design and implementation at scale
• Distributed systems architecture
• APIs and database fundamentals
• Modern backend language (Java, Python, or similar)
• End-to-end project delivery
• Infrastructure and scaling expertise
• Financial systems experience (nice to have)
