About this role

The CDC Foundation seeks a skilled microservice developer to modernize Utah's Electronic Message Staging Area system using event-driven architecture. You'll design scalable APIs and data pipelines with Kafka and Kinesis to support public health reporting at scale.

What you'll do

  • Design and develop high-performance microservices using Java SDK and GraphQL
  • Modernize the EMSA technology stack to improve stability, scalability, and maintainability
  • Increase system throughput to handle higher volumes during outbreak conditions
  • Expand functionality to support clinical and case-based data beyond laboratory reporting
  • Design and optimize PostgreSQL database structures for high-performance processing
  • Collaborate with public health stakeholders using Agile methodologies

  • Apache Kafka (3+ years hands-on experience)
  • Amazon Kinesis (Data Streams, Firehose)
  • Java SDK and Spring Boot
