About this role

Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks an R&D Electromagnetics Analysis Engineer to model and analyze superconducting magnet systems for fusion energy applications. You'll conduct finite element analysis of high-temperature superconductors, integrate multi-physics simulations, and validate computational models against experimental data.

What you'll do

  • Perform electromagnetic analysis of superconducting magnets using finite element methods and custom code
  • Model non-linear and anisotropic behavior of high-temperature superconductors in insulated and non-insulated systems
  • Develop 3D multi-physics FEA models incorporating heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and mechanical effects
  • Validate simulation results against experimental data with engineering and physicist teams
  • Develop custom in-house code and extensions to commercial analysis packages
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to inform subsystem design decisions

What they're looking for

  • Finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Electromagnetic analysis
  • High-temperature superconductor modeling
  • Multi-physics simulation
  • Custom code development
  • Commercial FEA software packages
  • Technical communication
  • Experimental validation
