Backend Engineer

About this role

A pre-seed energy tech startup is seeking a Backend Engineer to build core infrastructure for their energy platform operating system. You'll develop scalable billing engines, market communication protocols, and accounting systems using TypeScript/Node.js while working on-site in Berlin.

What you'll do

• Design and implement scalable backend services handling complex energy market and billing infrastructure
• Develop API routes and server-side services using TypeScript, Node.js, and Next.js
• Build and maintain PostgreSQL databases with Drizzle ORM for reliable data access
• Integrate and extend Stripe-based billing and payment processing flows
• Establish engineering standards and improve code quality across the platform
• Solve distributed systems challenges in a fast-paced startup environment

What they're looking for

• TypeScript and Node.js with strong asynchronous programming knowledge
• PostgreSQL and Drizzle ORM
• Next.js including API routes and server components
• Distributed systems design and scalable architecture
• Stripe payments integration
• CS fundamentals and 3-10+ years backend experience
• Strong written and verbal communication
• C1+ English proficiency
