About this role

About us

Coalition is the world's first Active Insurance provider designed to help prevent digital risk before it strikes. Founded in 2017, Coalition combines comprehensive insurance coverage and innovative cybersecurity tools to help businesses manage and mitigate potential cyberattacks.

Opportunities to make an impact with bold thinking are real—and happening daily at Coalition.

About the role

In this role, you will be responsible for driving profitable business from an assigned group of brokers and partnering closely with our Sales organization. You will underwrite and manage products across Coalition’s portfolio, with a particular focus on enterprise-sized clients (~$1B+ revenue), while serving as a trusted partner to brokers and customers. You will help clients better understand how to protect their businesses, bringing together underwriting expertise, business acumen and a relationship-first approach.

This is a remote opportunity that can be based anywhere in the Central US with a strong preference for the Greater Chicago area.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and manage Coalition’s largest and most complex new and renewal accounts, while maintaining alignment to underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and carrier requirements.
  • Shape overall portfolio strategy through management of the broker relationships responsible for placing Coalition’s largest and most complex accounts.
  • Maintain disciplined underwriting files, documentation, and internal tool usage in line with Coalition’s workflows and governance standards.
  • Lead highly complex negotiations on pricing, terms, structures, and exception requests in line with risk appetite, carrier requirements, and close partnership with CPU.
  • Serve as Coalition’s senior underwriting face for priority brokers, strategic clients, and flagship accounts, including executive-level discussions and regional market leadership.
  • Provide mentorship to other underwriters, helping raise the bar on underwriting discipline, broker communication, and deal strategy.
  • Represent Underwriting in cross-functional strategy discussions tied to portfolio optimization, product evolution, and market growth.
  • Partner with Coalition’s security team, Claims, Product, Actuarial, and CPU to address complex risk issues and translate technical, wording, and portfolio considerations into sound underwriting decisions.
  • Regular travel required for senior broker relationship management, client meetings, broker education, and market-facing leadership activity.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 8+ years of underwriting experience, including deep experience in cyber and Technology E&O and sustained success in complex production underwriting roles.
  • Demonstrated experience underwriting large/enterprise accounts (~$1B+ revenue) and managing a profitable book.
  • Expertise in analyzing complex cyber and Technology E&O risks and understanding their impact on underwriting, pricing, and portfolio outcomes.
  • Ability to combine deep underwriting expertise with broker and client needs to craft creative solutions and explain rationale credibly at senior levels.
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to connect individual account decisions to broader portfolio, P&L, and market objectives.
  • Significant experience mentoring underwriters and influencing underwriting culture, standards, and operating practices.
  • Excellent executive presence, presentation skills, and comfort leading complex broker and client conversations in high-stakes settings.
