Backend and Data Engineer

About this role

Condor seeks a Senior Backend and Data Platform Engineer to design and operate scalable data infrastructure powering financial intelligence for clinical R&D. You'll build mission-critical pipelines, backend services, and AI-ready data systems that enable enterprise biopharma teams to make high-stakes operational decisions.

What you'll do

• Design and maintain scalable data pipelines ingesting, normalizing, and transforming financial and clinical trial data from multiple sources
• Develop backend services and data access layers exposing high-quality financial data to internal systems and customer features
• Implement embedding pipelines and vectorized data representations to support semantic search, RAG, and agentic workflows
• Optimize database performance, query execution, and batch processing for large-scale financial datasets and AI-driven access patterns
• Collaborate on architectural decisions around data infrastructure, storage strategies, and LLM integration
• Partner with product and analytics teams to translate business requirements into datasets, metrics, and APIs

What they're looking for

• 8+ years backend and data engineering experience
• Advanced SQL and relational database design (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• ETL/ELT pipeline orchestration (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, AWS Step Functions)
• Production experience with vector databases (pgvector, Pinecone) and embedding pipelines
• RAG and agentic workflow design
• Database performance tuning and optimization
• Full-stack pragmatism with frontend contribution capability
• Data modeling and complex analytical query design
