Software Engineer, Infra/Systems

About this role

Convex seeks a senior/staff-level infrastructure engineer to design and operate their cloud platform at scale. You'll work on distributed systems, database infrastructure, and backend services while helping establish reliability practices as the company grows.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain Convex's global cloud infrastructure
• Investigate and improve system performance and reliability
• Prioritize and execute key infrastructure projects in collaboration with leadership
• Establish reliability guidelines and operational best practices
• Develop systems and database code across the stack
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident response

• 4+ years backend engineering experience at scale
• Distributed systems and infrastructure design
• Systems architecture and operational best practices
• High-quality code writing (Rust experience valued)
• Experience scaling in fast-growth startups
• Deep systems thinking and problem-solving
• Understanding of OLTP databases and user-facing services
• Full-stack systems knowledge across layers
