About this role

Join Discord's Database Infrastructure team to design and operate massive-scale data systems handling trillions of messages for 200M+ monthly active users. You'll work with cutting-edge databases like ScyllaDB and PostgreSQL while collaborating across product and infrastructure teams to build storage solutions that power the platform.

What you'll do

  • Build and operate large-scale, reliable, and performant data systems using ScyllaDB, PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, and Rust
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and test complex systems in live production environments
  • Collaborate with product and infrastructure teams to develop storage primitives
  • Apply first principles thinking to solve critical problems impacting millions of users
  • Work on database indexing, storage optimization, and low-latency data access services

What they're looking for

  • Backend infrastructure development (2-4 years)
  • Distributed systems and concurrency control
  • Statically-typed programming languages (Rust, Go, Java, C, or C++)
  • Highly-available and distributed databases (ScyllaDB, Cassandra, Postgres)
  • Linux and operating systems fundamentals
  • Production system debugging and troubleshooting
  • DevOps tools (Salt, Terraform, Kubernetes)
  • Rust programming
