About this role
Join Discord's Database Infrastructure team to design and operate massive-scale data systems handling trillions of messages for 200M+ monthly active users. You'll work with cutting-edge databases like ScyllaDB and PostgreSQL while collaborating across product and infrastructure teams to build storage solutions that power the platform.
What you'll do
- Build and operate large-scale, reliable, and performant data systems using ScyllaDB, PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, and Rust
- Troubleshoot, debug, and test complex systems in live production environments
- Collaborate with product and infrastructure teams to develop storage primitives
- Apply first principles thinking to solve critical problems impacting millions of users
- Work on database indexing, storage optimization, and low-latency data access services
What they're looking for
- Backend infrastructure development (2-4 years)
- Distributed systems and concurrency control
- Statically-typed programming languages (Rust, Go, Java, C, or C++)
- Highly-available and distributed databases (ScyllaDB, Cassandra, Postgres)
- Linux and operating systems fundamentals
- Production system debugging and troubleshooting
- DevOps tools (Salt, Terraform, Kubernetes)
- Rust programming
