Distro
Electromechanical Engineer
About this role
QCi is hiring an Electromechanical Engineer in Bedford, MA to design and integrate advanced electro-optic and photonic modules, managing the full lifecycle from concept through manufacturing. You'll tackle multidisciplinary challenges in electrical structures, thermal systems, mechanical packaging, and interconnect technologies while ensuring products are reliable and manufacturable.
What you'll do
- Design and integrate electromechanical packaging for EO, OE, RF, and photonic modules including interconnects, thermal management, and enclosures
- Develop electrical test plans and execute S-parameter characterization, building automated measurement systems and data analysis tools
- Create PCB layouts, mechanical housings, and interconnect designs (transmission lines, flex circuits, wire bonds) balancing fit, thermal performance, and signal integrity
- Author assembly procedures, work instructions, engineering documentation, and maintain component libraries with sourcing and lifecycle data
- Drive design transfer from prototyping to manufacturing including DFM analysis, yield improvement, and production support
- Support qualification to reliability standards such as MIL-STD-883 and Telcordia GR-468
What they're looking for
- Electromechanical integration and packaging design
- PCB design and layout (Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD)
- 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks or equivalent)
- Python scripting for automation and data analysis
- RF/high-frequency interconnect design and S-parameter characterization
- Thermal management and power budgeting
- Hardware assembly, troubleshooting, and testing
- Design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and manufacturing process documentation
