About this role
DoorDash Labs seeks a Controls Engineer to develop embedded control algorithms for delivery robots' powertrain and systems. You'll design closed-loop controls, build testing infrastructure, and rigorously validate robot performance through simulation and field testing while supporting the autonomy team.
What you'll do
- Design and implement control algorithms for vehicle powertrain, thermal management, and auxiliary robot systems
- Build testing infrastructure including test cases, plant models, and functional models to verify algorithm behavior
- Conduct systematic testing at multiple levels from simulation to end-to-end road testing
- Collaborate with robot operations, field service, and autonomy teams to exceed their needs
- Improve development processes, testing methods, and bug triage procedures
- Define and solve novel problems requiring new skills and knowledge

- Brushless motor control development and testing
- MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow and model-based design
- Feedback control systems and sensor/actuator integration
- Embedded controllers and CAN communication
- C and Python programming
- Robotics and mechatronics systems knowledge
