About this role

DoorDash Labs seeks a Controls Engineer to develop embedded control algorithms for delivery robots' powertrain and systems. You'll design closed-loop controls, build testing infrastructure, and rigorously validate robot performance through simulation and field testing while supporting the autonomy team.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement control algorithms for vehicle powertrain, thermal management, and auxiliary robot systems
  • Build testing infrastructure including test cases, plant models, and functional models to verify algorithm behavior
  • Conduct systematic testing at multiple levels from simulation to end-to-end road testing
  • Collaborate with robot operations, field service, and autonomy teams to exceed their needs
  • Improve development processes, testing methods, and bug triage procedures
  • Define and solve novel problems requiring new skills and knowledge

  • Brushless motor control development and testing
  • MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow and model-based design
  • Feedback control systems and sensor/actuator integration
  • Embedded controllers and CAN communication
  • C and Python programming
  • Robotics and mechatronics systems knowledge

  • Git and build automation tools
