Efficient Computer

Applications Engineer - Silicon IP

San Jose, CA OR Pittsburgh, PA OR Austin, TXmidAdded today

About this role

Efficient is seeking an Applications Engineer to serve as the technical liaison between customers and internal teams during silicon IP evaluation, integration, and implementation. You'll guide customers through the full ASIC/SoC flow—from RTL simulation to tapeout—while debugging integration issues, developing reference collateral, and shaping future IP capabilities based on field evidence.

What you'll do

  • Act as primary technical contact for customers integrating silicon IP across RTL simulation, synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and signoff
  • Debug integration issues at the RTL, testbench, constraints, and physical design boundary to isolate IP defects from customer configuration errors
  • Develop and maintain reference verification environments, example flows, testbenches, SDC/UPF templates, and implementation guidance
  • Deliver onsite and remote technical training on IP architecture, verification methodology, timing models, and physical implementation best practices
  • Support pre-sales evaluations by assessing IP quality, verification collateral, PPA, floorplan compatibility, and integration effort for prospective customers
  • Aggregate field evidence and recurring support patterns to inform IP roadmap priorities and process-node support decisions

What they're looking for

  • ASIC/SoC verification and physical design
  • Silicon IP integration and troubleshooting
  • SystemVerilog, UVM, and HDL debugging
  • Python, TCL, Make, and shell scripting
  • EDA tools: Cadence Innovus, Synopsys ICC2/Fusion Compiler, PrimeTime, simulators (Xcelium, VCS, Questa)
  • Timing analysis, Liberty models, SDC constraints, and UPF low-power intent
  • Multi-voltage design, power domains, and DFT integration
  • Clear technical communication and customer engagement

Likely interview questions

  • Describe your experience integrating third-party silicon IP into a customer's SoC. What was the most challenging integration issue you resolved, and how did you debug it?
  • Walk us through your approach to diagnosing a timing closure failure that could stem from IP models, constraints, or customer implementation choices. How would you isolate the root cause?
